The world's first Afro-Caribbean rum, Equiano is the collaboration of two renowned distilleries on two different continents (Foursquare Distillery in Barbados and Gray Distillery in Mauritius) creating something entirely new for centuries' old craft. Equiano is 100% natural molasses based rum with no spices, no additives and no added sugar. Aged for 8 to 11 years in the tropical climates of Africa and the Caribbean, this marriage of fine rums finished in ex-bourbon and ex-cognac casks, creating a rich and deep flavour. A blend of column distilled, molasses-based rums from Gray’s Distillery, Mauritius and Foursquare Rum Distillery, Barbados. The Gray’s component is aged in a combination of French Limousin Oak and ex-Cognac casks for ten years. It's then shipped to Barbados and blended with rum aged in ex-bourbon casks for a minimum of eight years. Richard Seale and Co. at Foursquare distillery oversee the bottling. The name references Olaudah Equiano, an African born writer, abolitionist and traveller who financed his activities (partly) via the trading of rum. He was enslaved in Africa, taken to Barbados, and eventually settled in the UK.
